The XXVIIth World Road Congress was held in Prague, Czech Republic, October 2-6, 2023, under the theme “Together On the Road Again”.
This Congress was organized in close cooperation between PIARC, responsible for the content of the programme, and the Czech Local Organizing Committee (chaired by the President of the Czech Road Society and co-chaired by the First Delegate of the Czech Republic to PIARC, who is a representative of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic), responsible for the material organization of this Congress on behalf of the Czech Republic.
ECTRI co-organized respectively with the Transportation Research Board, AASHTO and with TRB and CEDR, two thought-provoking sessions on crucial topics for the future of transportation:
Foresight Session 03 – Enhancing transportation equity globally: Outlook, challenges, and future issues
Concept of equity in transportation, as defined by the World Health Organization, will be debated in that session. The discussions will revolve around why addressing equity is crucial, historical context, current policies and research, and real-world case studies. It will also identify challenges and areas for applying current research, all while promoting a global framework for transportation equity. Join us as we call for action and share insights from the United States, Europe, Africa, and the Asia Pacific regions.

Foresight Session 07 – Envisioning scenarios for global supply chains and what they mean for national road authorities
The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of global supply chains. As they evolve alongside digitalization, decarbonization, automation, and demographic shifts, national road authorities must adapt. Join us for a two-part session that explores scenarios envisioned by key global logistics players and the implications for road network operators. The aim is to enhance understanding, foster dialogue, and provide a foundation for future interactions and stakeholder activities.
Gernot Liedtke (German Aerospace Center (DLR)) delivered the keynote speech and joined Georgia Ayfantopoulou (Hellenic Institute of Transport) for the panel discussion.
