The 4th TRB International Symposium on Freeway and Tollway Operations (ISFO) took place in Vienna from 26 to 30 June 2023 under the theme “Innovation Advances Toward the Future of Managing Traffic”.
The symposium engaged 320 industry leaders and specialists from 36 nations in discussions on the challenges, research needs, innovative methods, and approaches to collaborate with other agencies and service providers to improve how they actively manage and control traffic on the surface transportation system.
Within the unique program with more than 40 workshops and sessions, technical tours and networking opportunities, 4 main topics were addressed:
• Governance and Organizational Challenges
• Managing and Analyzing Operational Strategies and Performance
• Next Generation of Traffic Management Systems and Services
• Innovative Financing to Build and Operate Motorways
ECTRI was represented by Stefan Seer (AIT and current TG Traffic Management and Modelling leader) and Wolfgang Ponweiser (AIT, ECTRI Board member and former TG Traffic Management and Modelling leader) at the Plenary Session 4 “Improving Traffic Management – Collaboration and Research Opportunities”
The symposium was co-organised by TRB and AustriaTech, and supported by AIT and ECTRI, among other partners.
